Default 69 radiator cap pressure!

HIYA Guys,

I have a 350/350 from a 69 Vette in my 59 and was wondering what the recommended radiator cap pressure is.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mark.

Stock cap is #15. The pessure only serves to raise the boiling point of water so if your not having any heating issues you could use a lower one.

Thanks Larry,

I am having overheating problems at idle which I am still working through.

I have only got a 7 pound cap at the moment and I was unable to stop the Vette the other day due to traffic considerations and once I did stop it dumped a fair amount of water so I was considering a higher pressure cap to save getting a low water level from the dumping.

Thanks for the info, Mark.

If you have a remote cap like some of our cars, make sure that the cap is the highest point on the system or the air (which goes to the highest point) cannot vent and instead will push water out. In some cases I have seen the upper hose routed over the alternator and be a couple on inches above the cap on remote set ups. I put a tech tip on Scotts(C-3 shark tank) wed site that explains it a little more in detail.
