I’m planning on replacing my A/C compressor, main hoses and VIR replacement this weekend. I’ve never done this before. Any suggestions or guidance would be appreciated.

im replacing my old A6 long coreasor with the new Pro6ten upgrade, new hoses and replacing the old VIR system with the new VIR Eliminator.

My car is a 1976 model.

any guideance suggestions?

I've done one a/c job on an old vehicle, not my vette. The biggest issue for me was breaking the old connections loose.use lots of penetrant. Other than that, it's just replace parts, pull the vacuum and charge. Are you going back with R12?. I'm going after the a/c on the vette this fall/winter. Still undecided on R12, 134A, or one of the drop ins for R12.

I’m going with an upgraded compressor and a VIR replacement. It’ll be the new 134A.

anything I need to look for with the O-Rings? Anything i need to do to assure a good seal.....or will it be self explanatory?

If you are going from R-12 to R-134a in addition to new hoses and O-rings, you will need to flush the system of any old R-12 oil as it's not compatible with R-134a.
Make sure to verify the new compressor is filled with R-134a compatible oil as well.
Basically: Remove, flush, replace, evacuate, charge and go.

I would change the condenser to a parallel flow type. Much better especially if you are going to the R134
I would also suggest changing the evaporator and accumulator to the 80-82 style.

It a ready has added ports and uses an orifice tube.
