car could be running to lean, arc in distributor cap causing misfire, floating valve, vacuum advance diaphram in distributor or advance weight springs causing to much advance although the last one should also cause a ping. I think it's probably a lean carb. Check to see if fuel is running through the secondaries when you crack them open. you can do this at a slightly higher than normal idle. there is also an enrichment valve that sits in the fuel metering block on a holley carb check this also. wcj
The most obivous thing is that the car exhibits symptoms of running lean, check your fuel filters and your fuel pump. If the filter is partially plugged or you have low flow from the pump it will misfire on acceleration and above 4000 rpm.
At least 3 or 4 times a year someone posts with these same identical symptoms and 90% of the time it is fuel flow related.
Good Luck!
