I am not the expert, but I would think you don't want to use any. The typical engine paint works well and I don't think you want too thick a coat on there to hold in heat. My .01cents.
I would not use any primer. As far as paint any spray paint is good, it can be engine paint or not. The only paint that is no good is silver because it turns brown with heat. From my experience even body paint is ok to use. I have a friend who paints his engine the same color as the body using the same paint. Years later the paint is still like new. :hat
I have never used any because if you are going to put a high heat paint on an engine ,then you probably need a high heat primer and I have never seen one.I have heard of people using body paint on their engines and I have also heard of problems with that due to catalyzed products not letting the heat escape. :yesnod: :seeya
No primer needed as you need a thinnish coat due to the heat. Make sure surface is clean and no oil or debris and lightly spray a good quality heat resistant paint.
Dont go tooooo thick with one coat as it will crack and peel reaaal fast..
por-15 sells a kit everything you need. they have about 25 different colors for the top coat. check out their site search on por-15. 40.00 bucks i got one but havent used it yet. motor is in the cellar being cleaned up.
Dont go tooooo thick with one coat as it will crack and peel reaaal fast.. thats the problem i have had in the past and the reason i was interested in a primer . with such primers do i really have to concern myself with the heat not being able to escape the engine ?
