Default Eleectronic Tachmoeter Calibration

Hi all,

I swapped an LS3 on my 71 Corvette. The engine runs and sounds normal. I installed an electric tachometer I bought from Ecklers, but I'm not sure how to calibrate it. See picture below. Has anyone used it! The rpm reads 1,500, but the engine sound normal. The one-page sheet that came with the tachometer says to use the blue and yellow wires for calibration, but there are none!!

The aftermarket electronic tach's are not calibrated for the corvette. If you send me the tach I can calibrate it for you but unless you have a signal generator you won't be able to. The tach's are calibrated at 4000 rpms, once you hit this all else falls in place. But you'd need a signal generator to do this or just take a stab at it... But a tiny adjustment at say 700 rpms is a huge change at 4k, it's not a linear movement.... Just like the original electronic tachometers the sine and co-sine flips around 2500. If I need to explain this or what it means just message me back.

If you want to send it in you can email me at Service@Willcoxcorvette.com

While Ek sells the same kit I sell, they don't know this issue exist and won't warn you about it... Our listing has the following on it.

https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...-kit-1955-1974

This kit must be calibrated before it is installed.

1953-1974
Manufactured by a GM supplier for OE accuracy and dependability
Can be used to convert the following:

1953-1962 mechanical tachometers to electronic

1963-1964 tachometers but require modification. You'll have to remove the jewel plate from the back of the tach and then enlarge the mounting holes in the movement to install.

1965-1974 mechanical tachometers

4 or 8 cylinder configuration so it can be used with LS conversion or any V-8
Easy installation and simple 3 wire hookup
No cutting, sawing, or modifications (except 63-64 Corvette) to the stock dash-mounts like the original!

Includes all hardware and switching instructions This kit must be test calibrated before it's installed. To do this you'll need to either take it to a speedometer/tachometer repair facility or have another test tachometer installed on the car or have a square signal generator. In our installations of this unit, the calibration is not set for a Corvette tachometer face and must be calibrated using the single turn potentiometer.

Whether you are installing a high energy electronic ignition distributor or a complete LS engine conversion, you can now run your factory tachometer without having a drive cable. This electronic conversion kit is a simple 3-wire installation. Instructions and hardware are included. Simply remove your Corvette's factory tachometer from the dash or cluster and mount the new electronic module on the back of your original tachometer face. *This item not eligible for any additional discounts and is non returnable.

This kit must be calibrated before it is installed.
