I'm looking at redoing my exhaust and was searching for low-profile mufflers/etc considering I stopped the mufflers before the rear suspension. I think it might be best to maybe do a full exhaust setup to help with ground clearance (lowered the 77 about 1.5-2") than try to tuck some mufflers under there. I do have a mild cam in the engine, so the 'rumble' isn't an issue, just trying to avoid it sounding to high pitched (fart can rockets). I was thinking Dynamax mufflers and researching a bit, but looking for some 'suggestions' for those that might have a 350 small block rumble and like their exhaust setup.
Why not run the two stage chambered exhaust... The pipe size is the same as the stock pipe only there are two stages, one is the resonator the other is the muffler.
Here a video of the chambered exhaust.. It sounds great with a beater camshaft and it sounds great with a stock one. It can be ordered for a car with headers as well.
Personally.. I like the chambered system,, one as a resonator and the rear as a muffler. That's what is on the video in the lower section.
But the chambered system below is mellow and sounds way better than the the stock exhaust...
I fixed the link on the exhaust in the post above and here is a picture of the entire system. Now I will also say, buy the 1973 rear exhaust hanger it.... it works great on any c3 for mounting the rear tips.

You know my thoughts on this after thinking about it... You say your stopping the exhaust before the rear suspension? This might dictate a custom system that I'm pretty sure we can do but I'd have to call the manufacturer. The issue with these cars with full exhaust on them is that the rear pipe runs under the rear spring so you're limited to what you can do.... Possibly making a stage two system with both the resonator and the muffler before the exhaust.... I'm not sure, but I'll call the manufacturer if this is what you are wanting and see what options are available... email me to let me know at service@Willcoxcorvette.com

i am looking at both options but either would be fine. I also have headers so all in all, it might just be a simple 1 pipe design in the end.....
Personally, I'd like to think the exhaust wouldn't drag at the rear spring.... but one key is to make sure you put the clamps side ways instead of downwards.
