So picked up my 75 Stingray this weekend and car ran well. Took her around town Sunday to see what she had. Decided to drive it to work yesterday and on my way home had the throttle stick several times. Made me a little nervous but managed. I know the guy I bought her from didn’t drive her much at all. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Congrats on your '75...., I had one awhile back. Loved it. Anyway, wrt your throttle sticking, make sure the linkage isn't binding anywhere and that the return spring is properly installed and is the correct tension (not too loose). Don't check the throttle by hand at the carb, have someone sit in the car and (with motor off) press the gas peddle to the floor and release while you observe the linkage with the air cleaner on and also off.. Finally..., depending on how long its been sitting around you may want to give the carb linkage a good blast of carb spray (STP or any other brand will work). Good Luck..
Be sure that the linkage is hooked up correctly to the carb. I drove my car for years with it hooked up as pictured; should have been hooked up to where the arrow is pointing. I'm a dope, I probably hooked it up wrong years ago when I replaced the other one. Since I have replaced this one with a correct one (rebuilt professionally by Lars), I have it hooked up correctly.
Same happened to me when I picked up my '79 three years ago: some days later the throttle was sticking (while driving - not so funny).
The reason was simple: I had, out of curiosity (this was the only thing I had done so far) removed and reseated the drop down air filter - and the carb's lever then sometimes touched the lower part of the air filter!
Took some time to find out 'cause all my repair trials were with the air filter removed...
Hope it will be something comparable easy with your problem.
