I am restoring the map pouch on my 1969. The amount of grime over a nasty dye job is unbelievable. The more I handle it the more I am impressed that this was acceptable to the PO.
Anyway, I HATE the way the map pocket sags open. Is there anyway to reshape it flat short of gluing or stitching the pockets shut (which is a viable option as I do not plan to store anything in them.) I notice that the pouch is backed with plastic.
I'm not sure about reshaping but on mine, the two smaller pockets sat flat and the larger one sagged so I added a small piece of velco to it in the center to hold it closed while still allowing it to be opened someday when I actually think of something i"d want to put in there...

Thanks... that seems like a very good idea. I am not sure what I would ever want to put in there. I am quite sure the previous put tennis ***** in there... for several years.
I put stronger springs for the large pocket but you could glue some small pieces of alloy strips to the inside edge to straighten the small ones maybe ?
I store a ink pen in mine, which is a overload for those crappy pockets. I always felt that the map pocket was the biggest let-down of the interiors over all design.
I think your best bet is to locate a seamstress that specializes in leather and have them remove excess material and re-sew. Nip & tuck perhaps.
Maybe some of the super magnets. Placed correctly, they might hold the pockets closed and yet leave them functional. I’ve used them as clamps for regrouping a convertible top and they worked great.
My original looked like yours as well. I was very pleased with the quality of a replacement one from the vendors... needless to say I don’t put anything in them anymore.
