Default Hood latch confusion

Here is the situation....I am trying to install my new L-88 hood from Vanacor on my 1971. The driver side latch fits perfectly. The passenger side will not match up. Slightly different bolt spacing on the hood inserts versus the latch and the latch itself will not sit flush on the new hood. Diving into the parts books it looks like there were at least 2 designs for this passenger side latch (1968-1969, 1969-1972?). My problem is that I am not sure of the model year of the hood that was on my car. The diagrams I have are not great, but I think that the early latch design had the lever/cable facing the windshield (this matches the design on my old hood??!!) and the latter design was reversed with lever/cable facing the front (this is the style shown in the 1971 AIM).
Can anyone confirm which style latch/cable arrangement matches which model year? Has anyone else installed a Vanacor hood and determined what latches/cables had to be used? Thanks for any info you can share.
