Replaced my q-jet a few years ago with a holley and am very pleased
except i seemed to have lost that nice sound i had with the q-jet when i
opened the secondaries. Wondering if this is the nature of the beast or
possibly a problem with the secondaries not opening completely? Should
i have the same sound regardless of the carb? Carb is a #3310 vac. sec.
duel feed.
thanx wade
Compare the size of the Holley butterflies..and the Q-jet sizes. You'll see the Q-jet has too tiny in the front, and two HUGE on the rear. And then Holley has 4 of the same size.
With the vac sec 750 it will only open up what you need. Since the primaries on the 750 are larger than that on the Qjet, more is served with the primaries. since the vac secondaries will only supply whats needed, the arent opening at an abrupt rate which gives you that "bog" sound yur speakin of. another reason the Qjet, which can be a very good carb if set up right, has been dubbed>"quadrabog"
You could experiment with some lighter secondarie diaphram springs that will bring the 750 in sooner. Too much too soon will give you that "bog"
What size is yur engine? My 350 pulls hard to 5500rpm with a meager Holley 600.

Wadey,
I hear you! The sound you heard and now miss was a musical tone made by the the large difference between the primary and secondary bores. Think of a small horn playing next to a large horn, two notes being played simultaneously.
