Default Recurve kits

Hey everyone

What is 'the best' curve kit out there?
I found many companies that make suck kits: Mr. Gasket, Spectre, Moroso, Accel, ...
I don't know which to choose.

I have a 77 L48.
Will it give me any HP gain?

I have another question regarding 'distributor machines/testers'. Do they still make them?
Is it true that the job becomes 'easier' when using such a machine to adjust distributors'? Or aren't there any benefits?

I have 2 Sun machines, and yes, it is FAR easier to curve a dizzy off the car, although it can be done with patience.

Sun no longer makes them, and you pay well for a good/rebuilt unit. Say $1500-$3000

King was making some nice new units for big $$, but I "believe" they went belly up.

I "assume" you have an HEI. Use two gold springs from Mr Gasket 528G. Aftermarket weights are trash.

Lars has great papers on this. Email him at V8fastcars@msn.com, and tell him what you are trying to do.

I agree, make sure you get the HEI kit, it will put you in the neighborhood. Yes there is a good performance boost.

Book marking for later....OK, its later. I Recently acquired an HEI from a forum member so I've been researching...a lot.

1. Check the numbers on the weights and center plate, certain number combinations give ideal advance while others do not. I was fortunate that mine has the ideal combination. 375/139 is the most ideal combo... Check this thread on the Chevelle site..
https://www.chevelles.com/forums/18-...ng-values.html

2. Check end play. HEI often have too much, mine is over ideal spec by .025. Too much end play cause the center shaft to move up and down which in turn causes slight timing changes.

3. Pertronix makes an complete Flame Thrower upgrade/rebuild kit. Cap, rotor, coil, module, advance can, wires etc... Davis Unified has caps, rotors coils and modules.

It probably doesn't make a difference but Pertronix has a 'race' kit with matched components but no vacuum advance can. I suppose an advance can could be added.

Nothing wrong with the Mr. Gasket kit. Pretty versatile.
