I seen a vette at the strip. It had a traction bar ( 1 ) on it, right in the center, Was this a factory built piece or could it have been home made? andAnd if it is a factory built unit where can I get one?
How about any traction info for the drag strip. Thanks, Philo :chevy
Don't know about the one you saw, but they used to be advertised in car magazines many years ago. They do help, just like regular cars which have two bars, basic same principle. You can make your own.
VB&P sells the traction bar, it works by supplementing the forward rear end mount. Kind of like a pinion snubber. The idea is to controll rotational movement around the axle center line. Be aware that it may interfere a little with exhaust pipes. I not sure that it would help traction unless you have a problem. I installed one to controll a violent wheel hop problem when the tires spun - it didn't help, but I did discover excessive side yolk clearance caused the wheel hop. Also, because it is a steel on steel connection, it may transmit noise.
I have a Vett Brakes traction bar on mine. I had a terible case of wheel hop at the drag strip. The traction bar totally eliminated the wheel hop problem.
I am using Vette Brake's dual mount spring and 3/4 rear sway bar and have never had wheel hop. Prior to that I had a 330 pound and a 360 pound glass spring and never had wheel hop either. As some one mentioned earlier, I would check half shaft u joints for play, all bushings, and the front diff snubber mounts for wear. Also make sure the diff crossmember bushings aren't worn. I am also using aluminum reinforcement washers on the diff crossmember below the rubber mounts. These are available from Vette Brakes.
I've never had wheel hop and I have had untold numbers of runs with slicks at drag strips. I did install the solid pinion bushing years ago when I had rear end out. The original rubber was smashed and cracked after about eight years. An IRS rearend is designed so that it doesn't have the items that induce wheel hop. I think that good gas shocks and well maintained rear suspension especially the trailing arms are the key.
