Default C3 Window Motors

Anyone aware of improvements on the original type of window motors among the aftermarket offerings? I've had some variance in performance among the rebuilts. My right side operates quickly but won't remain tight against the top weatherstrip. The left motor is currently out as the replacement (delivered yesterday) is for the other side.

I saw a replacement part on "CarParts.com," on this page: https://www.carparts.com/results/?Nt...ype=global&N=0

It has a plastic gear body, a polished motor case and a different connector so someone has either adapted a newer one or someone has produced a product apart from original GM specs. A little more torque would be nice.

I've change both my window motors in my '79 more than once. I've found the quality of the replacement parts available to be suspect at best. The slow movement of the window is most likely the result of gummed up tracks. After thirty years the grease gets pretty dried out. The solution is to remove and disassemble the entire mechanism and put it back together with fresh grease. The window not staying up is most often the result of a bad or broken spring. If it is the spring that is broken the window will go up slowly but go down lightning fast. With all that said, I currently have one window with everything working and rebuilt, and the glass won't stay up against the weatherstrip. As soon as I hit a bump it will drop about 1/4" Haven't figured that one out yet, so maybe you should take my advice with a grain of salt.

Thanks, drwet. I have removed and cleaned/relubed tracks and replaced regulators, motors and springs on both doors. The motor worm gear snapped on the driver door on 12/8. The vendor I chose for a motor sent me a right door motor marked "left" on a sticky label they put on it. They apologized and said that they just updated their notation on the motors a day before. Whatever. I'm still waiting to see what they will do for me. That's why I started searching for alternatives. I am contemplating trying one of those "modern" looking motors to see if they are built any better. Have my doubts about that, too.

At least my Borgeson steering box worked out fairly. It has some issues to work out, too. I have to remove it and ding my headers to clear them. When the motor rocks it bumps the right rear bolt on the top of the Borgeson unit. It also doesn't return to center by itself so I have to see if adding more positive caster will help it.

Interesting , Our old holdens used the same motors in later year cars , so we can get them local if we need them .

But I was wondering , with the plastic body , about getting a good ground for those newer style units.

Well they can't ground in the door. Have to be a separate wire for ground, but there are only two wires in the harness (I believe).
