Quick question. I’m installing an electric fuel pump and I am going to use a fuel pressure regulator with a return line. I’m running a new feed line, but can I use the existing fuel return line that’s already on the car, or should I run a new one and make a new return port on the tank?
On my 74, i ran a new -8 feed line, and used most of the factory 3/8 feed line as my return, and plumbed it to the tank port on the drivers side where the plumbing from the charcoal canister ran to. I then ran that canister plumbing to where the factory return line went on the pass side, stepping the 3/8 down the 5/16 or even 1/4 inch size that is there
In my opinion, the factory return line is too small to satisfy the needs of a return style regulator and electric fuel pump, unless the pump is relatively low psi like 7. I see that at least one previous poster has done it successfully, and that's great.
Aeromotive wants you to run the same size return line as feed. My return is one size smaller, and I can't get the pressure as low as I'd like. My pump is a 14 psi aeromotive street strip. Lowest i can get pressure is probably in the high 6 range, and I couldn't run my qjet with that. Fine with holley.
