Default accessory position?

to my knowledge my 72 coupe auto doesn't have a accessory position on the steering column. (if that's wrong i have more questions) It doesn't turn backwards to listen to the radio, etc. When I turn if forward to the run position, isn't it putting current to the point? seems it would burn the points if they are in the closed position. Could someone explain this to me?
thanks

It should have an accessory position for the key and yes if in the run position and the points are closed it' put power through them and that's not a good thing (with the car not running of course)

wiggle the steering wheel while you try and go to the acc position. If it doesnt work , it may be out of adjustment
