Flowmaster Super 44 Owners Come Forward
I just pulled the trigger on a pair of Flowmaster Super 44 mufflers.
If you have these on you car would you comment on the sound and drone?

Not 44's, but I am running the Flowmaster 40's and I added a small 1-1/2" H-pipe between the left and right banks, behind the trans crossmember. Very little drone, and it is only present from about 1600-2000 rpm and then goes away. Solid sound.

I have Flowmaster 40s on my 68 convert with 454 with long tube headers. They are loud enough that I'm not sure I would notice any drone.

I think you'll like the 44's. Had them on a 71 c10 with a mild 350 and I loved them. Not too loud and I didn't have any drone that I recall.
I had 40's on a 72 Jimmy with a similar 350 and they were a bit too loud so I put some car chemistry inserts into the exhaust tips. Still loud but took the edge off nicely and helped a little with drone.
Both systems were 2.5", truck had manifolds, jimmy had headers. I've heard all things equal a system with headers will be louder than with manifolds but I have no practical experience to confirm or deny the claim. Both systems went out the back but the truck was a long box so that probably helped reduce noise a bit. I don't recall the difference in tail pipe length.
On a side note, going from 2.5" to 3" makes a very noticeable difference in volume. 3" is just flat out loud.

If you want something much quieter that still has that sound the 50 series delta flows are nice. Had them on a C4, was pretty happy with them. Still had a touch of drone but not bad at all. The original 40s drone city.
The 70 series are way quieter but if you have a high hp car and are worried about times..you may notice a slight loss.
With todays goofy pc sound laws The push is on to keep the volume down and minimize power loss it seems.

The mufflers that I have sound like a mosquito on hard acceleration but great at idle. The Flowmaster 44 Supers are a tad quieter than the 40's supposedly. I'm not pushing a bunch of power out this engine so naturally it should be quieter than most I would think.

I installed the Flowmaster Super 44s on the car yesterday.
I got just what I was looking for I think.
The sound is great at idle. Not overly loud compared to the 40 series. A little drone at lower speeds around town. I didn't get on it over 55 mph or 2500 rpm as the rain crept in on me. I'll get her on the toll road when it stops raining. I'll see if there is a drone at cruising speeds of 60 - 80 mph. Then I'll get back with a final report.
I'd still like to hear your comments.
