Now he only needs to remove the luggage rack add a fifth wheel trailer hitch to the rear deck. Now that would be sick. I once had a Olds Delta 88 diesel which I converted to gas with a 350 olds engine.

That's even more amazing than the buick turbo V-6 Vette that I saw at some drag races.

My daily driver is a 79 Mercedes Benz 240D. This is a four cylinder diesel that gives exceptional mileage and extreme durability. I NEVER bought my 72 Corvette for fuel mileage though.

Diesel engines actually have a lot of torque... Some of the modern Turbo Diesel engines produce just about the same Horsepower than gasoline engines with the same dispacement but have more torque.. Nobody has ever put a Diesel engine in a american sports car because Diesel is just about the same price than gas... In some european countries this is different... In some countries - Diesel is up to 30% cheaper than gas... Therefore a lot of people get cars with Diesel engines.. My dad has a car with a 3 liter diesel engine with approx. 150 horsepower...

My daily driver is a 2002 F250 4x4 7.3L turbo diesel the engine has a flat torque curve from 1200 to about 2500 rpm, 505 ftlbs. During the summer I was getting 18+ MPG, not bad for a truck that weighs over 6400 lbs. People are modifying their turbo diesels and getting 700+ ftlbs rear wheel torque, The fastest (top speed) street legal pick up truck is the Banks project sidewinder pick up truck http://www.bankspower.com/Banks_Side...inder-news.cfm
Even though I like diesels I would not put one in a vette or a camaro.

How does the guy get decent acceleration? I mean, isnt 3,000 RPM "winging it" for a diesel V8? I don't think i would want a motor in my vette that I would have to worry about taking over 3,500 rpm. Sheesh... thats just 75 mph in my car. Even though the guy has the 700R4, he may have decent top speed (100 mph maybe?), but I just don't see the thing getting there very quickly.

the 6.5 diesel with the turbo is a low performer, his has no turbo. His acceleration is probably not good.
If he had one of the newer diesel's such as the duramax tubo diesel with all of the torque and the light weight of the car he would only need to run 2.73 or 2.56 gears, but I don't think he would ever fit that motor in his vette
