Default Tune up Dizzy

Lots of rust on weights and springs any suggestions? Is there a cleaning method?

Take a picture of how the weights are oriented. Remove the two weights and two springs and plop them in a plastic cup with some of rust removing household cleaners like CLR. Let it soak couple hours. Meanwhile, some say good ol WD40 will remove rust from the distributor plate. IDK

When you re-assemble, spray some White Lithium grease under the weights. Can be found it Walmart, red spray can. Won't fling off at high RPM and won't melt.

I would wire wheel them, coat with silicone spray, wipe dry, then reassemble. No grease.

Good point. New springs are cheap.

E-mail Lars and get his paper on Distributors......good reading and everything you need to know.
Stuff like advance canister stops, how much they pull, distributor gear endplay and shimming, etc.......
Replace the pickup coil no matter what......the 70's units were known for getting brittle and having the wire separate from the pickup-coil.....if it is old, it is going to happen...just a question of when.
