Working on LED light conversion for the rear tail/turn/brake signals. I've read through these forums as well as some online resources looking at this topic and still can't get these lights to work. I've got the 76 vette and this is what I've tried:
1. Install the electronic flasher. Does not produce a turn signal. Does both the hazzard flasher as well as turn flasher need to be upgraded in order for the turn signals to work? The OEM bulbs do produce a signal and does not hyperflash so they have power.
2. OEM flasher with inline resisters on the turn signal electrical. Does not produce a flash.
3. Also trying to connect a tailgate type LED light bar to compare. Tail lights and brakes work but still not turn signal flashing.
Any ideas why the electronic flasher connect to ground with LED light replacement bulbs (tried 2 brands) still do not produce a flash?
I bought the 3-wire style (ground, plus two leads), and the reversible base (this is key!). You'll have to see which way it works, you may or may not need the base. Link below.
The turn signal and hazard circuits are separate, and both need to be upgraded, and the base may be required in one and not the other.
Start with the rear turn/brake lights. I recall there may be something goofy about the corner markers (a circuit that operates in both directions, which is fine for an incandescent, but does not work for an LED).
So far I only tried the electronic flasher and did not try the base adapter. I'll try that adapter. As far as I can tell from Ecklers the exact same electronic flasher goes to the hazzard circuit as well. I'll purchase another electronic flasher and the adapter base and see if that works. I'm hoping this is the ticket.
I hope it works out for you. I first bought the flasher unit from a major Vette vendor (not Eckler's). It did NOT include the base, and therefore did NOT work. I made an adaptor with some crimp ends to prove that it would work if I had the base, then bought a base from Jegs or somewhere.
I forget where I grounded the wire, but that is also critical to operation.
