On the Transmission shift levers that bolt to the side of the transmission there are two holes that the levers hook to. From the factory it is set in the top holes. Has anybody heard of putting it in the bottom holes? It will make the shifts half the length. Does anybody have any experience with this? Will it mess up anything (shifter linkage, Transmission, ect.....) I know it is also hard to get into nuetral after being in reverse but i can live with that i just dont want to mess anything up.
The holes closest to the pivot point are the ones to use, and change out that old gear oil for synthetic engine oil...makes the tranny so much smoother in shifting, youd think it was a 4 cyl *** car...
The lower settings will make your shift trows much shorter. It may require some minor adjustment ot the rods. I think you will find that you will enjoy the shorter throws. I have my 74 set for the shorter throw and my 72 in the original settings. It very obvious that the throws are longer when I drive the 72.

Somewhere around 76 they stopped putting in the two holes. I cann't remember exactly.
To switch to the short throw holes, it is just a matter of moving the rods and adjusting the linkage. You need to make an adjusting tool. It's just a flat piece of tin that holds the shifter arms stationary while you get the right adjustment. Most of the books have the width that it needs to be.
