I am restoring a 69 L71. I have the body off the frame. The body is in pretty good shape except for the inner passanger Fender.
I am going to remove the inner fender while the body is off the car, obviously much easier. I am then going to re-install BUT only bolt it to the rad support and let my body guy, who will also be painting the car, bond it once the body is back on the frame. I will clean everything and get it prepared - but figure it would be better to finalize and of course properly align once on the car especially the hinge for the hood.
Does this make sense f?
On a second note - Anyone have any good ideas on a vendor for the inner fender?
sounds about right Bob, my 71 project was damaged in the front and did basically the same process. I used an original inner fender that I had and installed it to the core support since that is a fixed area. I then mocked up my grills and lower valance to make sure that they would all be aligned. Once I got the fit I needed I bonded the outer part of the inner fender to the car. This car required a splash mold to be made for the front side to be able to install the grill end properly. A lot of pieces to align so mocking things up first is a good idea. Sounds like your on the right track.
