Default Engine identification help

I found a 350 at a local wrecking yard. The owner says it came out of a 78 Vette. I pulled the #'s and would like to find out it in fact this is the original 78 Vette motor.

Block # 3970010
Head # 462624

I am not going to pull it apart if it's not the proper engine. Did the 78-79 Vettes come with 4 bolt mains. What make 's the Corvette motor different from other 350's?

He wants $250 for the motor.

3970010 - block casting 1969-1979 4-bolt 350

462624 - head casting 1978-1981 350c.i. 1.94 / 1.5 Z-28 Camaro
462624 - head casting 1976-1987 305c.i. - 350c.i. 76cc chambers - (apparently, these heads are crack prone)

You'll want to check the front engine pad for numbers that may help to identify the block further.

Where is the front pad? I have looked on my 305 that I currently have and can't locate it. Is there anything else I should look for?

I do believe that the "010" block was made in both 2 and 4 bolt configurations. Drop the oil pan to check. Chuck
