A few days back, I suggested maybe your choke was sticking. Not sure if you ever ruled that out. I’m pretty sure that I would be focused on that carburetor. What kind of carb is it and like the previous poster asked, when was it cleaned or rebuilt???

Okay guys/gals.....I drove out to Street Rat’s place. She ran perfectly. This was almost 20 miles with speeds around 70 mph on IH-35. No problems at all. We (Street Rat) looked over the carb, checked the vacuum advance, checked the timing, and adjusted the A/F mixture screws. He also inspected the distributor and cap. The carb is a Q-jet by the United Remanufacturing Co. purchased and installed in August if 2018. (The carb has appx 275 miles on it since Install) I know this is not the best carb out there, so maybe it’ll need to be replaced. As far as the choke sticking, it’s not sticking. It’s actually open and will not close. Craig re-routed the fuel hose until I’m able to replace it with a steel line from the pump to the carb. He thinks the fuel may have been boiling in the line due to it’s close proximity to a header tube. Oh, the in carb fuel filter was very clean.

So, other than the possibility of fuel boiling in the fuel hose, everything seems to be in good working order. We test drove the car and had no problems. I drove home and completed 42 miles, round trip, with no problems. I’ll see if the problem continues or even happens again. I’ll update here regardless of the situation. Fingers crossed.

Fyi, I had my first drive with the T-tops off AND the rear window removed and stored in the storage tray. This is the way to cruise! The air flow at 70 mph is no problem. There’s no turbulence inside the cabin. That was great. Thanks all for the continued input! And thanks Craig for taking your time to help!

No problem Joe.

I enjoy tuning and playing with these C3s.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well.

Did you guys take the top of the carb off? Look for junk in the bowl or a reason for a sticky float? Just spitballin WAG.

No, we didn’t but that sounds like another good idea if problems continue. I understand a stuck float can flood the carb, but I’m sure that flooding wasn’t happening. Can a stuck float cause fuel starvation? If the problem is/was fuel related, it seemed to be a starvation issue as opposed to too much if that makes sense?

Less common than float that drops or sinks ... that floods ... but float stuck UP starves motor.

It seems to lead to the carburetor in my mind.
I haven't heard good things about rebuilt Quadrajets.
I am a Holley man myself.
So we didn't pull the top off of the carb not knowing what I was getting into.
I can tell you the carb that Joe has does need to be looked at by a professional.
I don't know if Lars is still messing with Qjets.
Maybe someone here knows?

Craig

Update:
I’ve had the C3 out four times including the drive home on 03/10 and yesterday, 03/26. The car has run great all 4 times with no stalling or complete shutdowns. The only change made was the re-routing of the fuel hose from the fuel pump to the carb. So far so good.

I’m now replacing the old fan clutch and fan shroud. The shroud was missing a big chunk at the bottom and the clutch did not seem to be engaging at higher temps as it should. Instead of starting a new thread, I thought I’d ask this question here. I’ve read many posts/threads about replacing these fan shrouds. Of the several options, including removal of the hood, what might be the least complicated for an “old” guy with a bad back. I don’t think cutting the new shroud is an option for me because it’s fiberglass and not plastic like the old one I took off. (350 sbc AT AC w/out the ac compressor)

Broken old fan shroud.

New fan shroud.

We got it all put together. Here’s a link to the fan shroud install, no hood removal or cutting of parts required:
