Another Brake Question
Hello Fellow Vetteheads, This summer I repalced all calipers with SS lined Delco cores, replaced all rotors, replaced all pads,replaced rubber lines, replaced MC, flushed the lines with alcohol and blew the lines out with air,replaced with DOT 5, bled all lines in a glass jar to see if any DOT 3 came through, had some, but eventually bled it all out until only purple DOT 5 came through. Problem I'am having is that after a couple of days driving I start losing brake pedal pressure, after bleeding pressure stays up for another couple days and a funny thing happens, the only wheel that will bleed air is the front right, and when it is bled off brakes are hard as a rock again. Is it a no brainer that I have a bad new rebuilt caliper or am jumping to conclusions?

sound like you are suckingair past the seals or ss linings in the caliper. you can also check to see if the brake hose, or caliper shell O rings are leaking. usually in order to suck air in, you should have some visable signs of leakage. check all of you fittings for loose connections. you can be bleading out the air that is comming through a fitting not related to the caliper. hope this helps. wcj P.S. if you have a compression washer on the caliper, check this also.

It also sounds like there could be excessive runout on that wheel. When this happens, the caliper piston "pulsates" when you apply the brakes and causes it to suck in air. I would take the wheel/rotor off (mark where it is on the hub now) and make sure the mating surface [on the rotor and hub] is super clean - when you replace the rotor, DON'T put it in the same orientation that it was - rotate it a couple of lugs. Bleed and try it again. If the problem persists, you should try to get your hands on a Dial Indicator with a magnetic base and check the runout - in case it's something else. By the way, did you check / repack / retighten the bearings in the front hubs when you did the brake work?

pws69 Thank you for mentioning about the run in /out I did change out the front wheel bearings while I was changing out parts and may have not put that one in right ,forgot to mention the fact. wcj, have been looking for leaks with a magnifying glass almost and have not been able to find any so far. Thanks for your help.
