Fuel Tank Bung Removal?
Forum: My car is a 74.
Now that I know I'm not getting any fuel from my tank.
I would like to remove the bung and check it before I fill the tank.
It looks like it might be threaded?
Any advice?
TIA

If you are referring to the sending unit, then there is a locking ring that holds it in place.
I used a small chisel to remove my old one, but I would not recommend that. There is a tool for removal and installation of the sending unit.

I think the vendors here probably sell them. This is what it looks like.

Hope that helps.

Also, there is a o-ring that you might need to replace if yours is flat or not in good shape. You will find it when you remove the unit.

Here is the general idea. If you do not get the specific tool, then I suggest using a slightly larger screwdriver. Not much risk, but don't go creating a spark now. If you use some lubricant on the seal it may slide a little easier.
Just get under there and take a look. Drop the spare tire carrier and eyeball it.

Thanks for the info.
A kind forum member Donnie already pointed me in the right direction for the tool.
Now I have to wait and see what is needed once I pull out the sending unit!
