Default 1980 T5 driveshaft length

Hello, I apologize if this topic is already posted but I didn't find anything after a search, so if I missed it please send me a link. I recently purchased an 80 coupe that was originally an automatic, but a previous owner had swapped in a T10, badly. I have a T5 on hand, so I though as long as I had to fix this mess I would swap the four speed for the five. I knew it would be tight, but after getting the T5 installed yesterday today I discovered the 27" drive shaft, measuring from the center of both joints, that had come with the T10 is at least 3" too long. Does that sound correct?

Perfect timing on your post! I'm taking my driveshaft in today to be shorten. I also have an 80 that I'm converting from an th350 auto to a camaro T5. I measured the drive shaft last night. Old length was 28 inches. New length needs to be 25 inches so it will be getting shortened 3 inches. So I would say that sounds correct. How far out was the yoke from the case of T5 when you measured?

You want the yoke set up with 1/2 inch travel to bottom out.

When I attempted to install the drive shaft, even before I had the rear completely in place the yoke was completely buried, so I'm concerned that 3" is not enough.

I remember hearing 3-1/2 or so, but not sure where. I also hear T5 is same length as 700r4 so 82 vette driveshaft is the right length. Impossible to find though.
