1980 "Extra Battery Red Wire" useage.....

1980 "Extra Battery Red Wire" useage.....
While in judging these cars the last few years, we've(judges and I) been seeing this "extra red wire" on 1980's. This past summer I came across the only schematic that shows this "usage", but I don't know if it covers early cars, midproduction cars, late cars etc.
On this schematic, it shows that 1980 Corvettes with the "tape player" option-AM-FM 8 Track, OR AM-FM Cassette tape player received this "extra red wire" coming off of the battery. Since my '80 is just an "AM-FM Radio" car, it does not have this extra wire-cars with the "tape player radios" will OR should. Seems GM put in this extra wire to maybe avoid "Interference" from the alternator by this seperate little "harness".

do judges look at wire colors down around the fuse box? Are there points for this?

Can't it be a permanent 12V for the digital clock on the radio (did 80's come with those??)
