Default Plug-too rich?

Just pulled one plug out to see what they were running in the car. 1969 with a 427/390hp motor. Running too rich?

Maybe a good "carbon run" would clean this up?

Yeah, too rich it is... but if it was just idling in the driveway for 15 minutes warming up it's a false indication of your jetting.
Take it for a run, bring it home and don't let it idle, then pull the plugs and read.

I switched my 69 427/390 to ACDelco R45XLS. My R44's looked just like yours. I don't beat on it much as it's still the original motor but sstocker is correct. You have to run it on the road without letting it sit in the driveway idling then check the plugs. You don't have any oil fouling on the plug or even the threads so you could leave them or move up a heat range.

May as well throw in a new set of plugs in for what they cost and then do another diagnosis.

I picked up 45s today and will toss them in. Been only tooling around town at 35mph and lots of idling. Time to do a longer run on the highway. Thanks for the feedback.
