Default Duracool 12a

Anybody ever hear of Duracool 12a? Does it work? Is it compatable with R12?

This summer while researching and retrofitting my aircon, I experimented with freeze12, duracool and envirosafe before spending the money necessary to completely overhaul the system. Duracool is a blend of methane/propane and as such is not approved by DOT for vehicles. As to compatablility, yes it will work with the mineral oil already in a R12 system but the EPA frowns upon mixing refrigerants. It can be done but the problem is the pressure curves are totally different which means its difficult to find the proper charge for a system designed for R12. I found the head pressures were scary high when the vent temps were only hitting about 55 degrees. My advice is to have your A/C serviced with R12 by a qualified shop or spend the money to completely retrofit to 134a.
