So, got a new ring gear and had flywheel resurfaced. They took the minimum off but that left a very slight (can barely feel) groove at the outer edge edge of the wear pattern. Shop said it should not be a problem, but love to get input from my CF brethren.

I agree both counts ... But ...
But was back of fw not clean when tightened in shop's fixture? Or maybe it wasn't true-square when new? Did you ask shop about this?
Do you have a fixture (good lathe-chuck) you can use to verify face runout?
The small groove in itself is no concern but it looks like face MIGHT not be perfectly perpendicular to crank centerline.
Then again, maybe fw wasn't true when new ... then your disc grooved it ... then face may've become trued up when you had it resurfaced.
If it was a couple thousandths off true, the disk and pressure plate were too. You have WAY more wiggle room in the clutch splines. You would never notice it and neither would the drivetrain. Same if it is a couple thou off now. I have a valve grinder that is .001 off. Nothing I can do to get it to run true. That could be the case with that shop's flywheel machine. Take it to somebody else and ask them to true it and take off another 1 or 2.
Mount the flywheel on the crankshaft and a dial indicator on the block and turn the engine over to see actual runout on the face of the flywheel. I would question whoever did resurface the flywheel though as usually you would machine until the surface cleans up completely. Groove can't be that deep? another .010"? If the groove wasn't there you would never suspect a thing was wrong.
Even if you take it to another shop to resurface, they could mount an indicator on the face before machining. Either it wasn't true originally or isn't true now. Should be checked before assembly
It looks to me like the out-of-true appearance might be a trick of the light. Does the groove appear even all the way around or is what we see in the photo an accurate representation?

Photo is accurate. Wear was also not even, best I could measure with end of caliper. Varied from .015" to .020".
