Default Is exterior insulation needed

Doing the interior firewall and tunnel insulation now on my 69

Is the exterior insulation needed if I do the interior right?

I have already sprayed lizard skin on the interior
and going to put more insulation on top of that

If I do need exterior, what is the call for that? DEI floor and tunnel shield?

Thanks
Glenn in San Diego

Depends on what you want-

Sitting in traffic and long drives- definitely. NCRS event- Nope!!!

You've spent a couple hundred bucks on the lizard skin- why not spend a little more and make a big difference-

Look at every new car the past 20+ years and they use all sorts of heat-shielding outside the passenger cabin...The space shuttle uses heat shielding on the exterior too!!!

I used the "zero clearance" adhesive backed heat shielding- and did the Lizard Skin on the interior too-

I used some goof-off to remove the logo/lettering-

Would it pay to just spray lizard skin on the interior and the exterior or is it best to use a zero clearance type product on the exterior?

I would max everything out. Using aluminum to absorb to dissipate heat on the outside. Lizardskin is an insulator which works great but I would still top it with a another barrier.

I didn't use Lizardskin but at some point I'll add it. Just doing the outside made a huge difference.

Are you insulating for sound reduction or heat reduction?

Thanks for all the replies so far

I am mainly insulating for heat

Right now everything is gutted with the engine out so I have free access to do anything
I am mainly concerned with the firewall and forward floors at this minute

Putting in a Vintage Air evaporator this week so I need to make some decisions soon

How far up the firewall did you bring the exterior insulation

With the engine out the whole tunnel and a little of the firewall then left and right as high as I could go until you start running into other things in the way of the sheet.

What brand did you use on the exterior?
