Default 77 vette front spring installation placement

hi.......
I just got two new GT front Springs. As i am installing them i noticed inside both (upper & lower) control arm have notches in them with holes in the end (see pic #1). the ends of the springs do not match the notches (see pic #2). Is that safe ??
im not sure if compressed it will match. i tried to compress & spin them but to no avail.
It almost seems i need to cut them which will be ok being that i want to lower the front height a lilttle bit
if the spring needs to be in the notches, does it need to be flush over the hole ???
how would i go about cutting them ???
any input will be always greatly appreciated..thanks

p.s. i matched the old springs with new springs and they are identical so im not sure if even the old ones were on correctly

inside bottom control arm (pic #1)

inside top control arm (pic #1 as well)

(pic#2) spring placed flush on bottom control arm

(pic#2 as well) spring inside top control arm while bottom spring end flush on notch on bottom control arm

Mine was the same way. I set the bottom of the spring in the notch with half the hole showing. The top landed before the notch as your does.

On the bottom A-arm, you want the spring to be UP TO the hole but not covering it.

For more information email Lars for his 'How to rebuild front suspension' paper.

Index the TOP of the spring to the frame pocket. Your AIM will show about a 3/8" distance from the stop in the pocket. I dropped a 1/4" bolt in the hole and rested the spring on it. When seated, I took the bolt out of the hole. If you index the spring on the bottom, there is a good possibility that the car will not be level. Jerry

As Jerry said, the cut on the end of the spring needs to be visible at the tiny hole in the TOP pocket, not the lower A-arm. The flatter end of a stock spring goes into the top pocket.

You do not index the bottom of the spring at all. The lower A-arm pocket hole is for water drainage, like the bottoms of your doors.

ok thanks
i will do that. On my aim book pg 218 it says
"install spring with closed space coils toward frame spring Tower" which is the top (pocket)
maybe this will lower my car a bit
but thanks guys im just trying to do this the correct way or as much correct as possible
