George Jonas founded SSBC or Stainless Steel Brakes in the mid 70's. He was the first company to stainless steel sleeve calipers that I'm aware of. I believe his son Mike still runs this company.
But George only used Original calipers to insert his sleeves into for years, then after George all kinds of other companies popped up doing the same thing.
No Corvette ever came with stainless calipers, it was just a good way to prevent them from pitting.
I used the original SSBC calipers 40 years ago and they were quality pieces. As Ernie said a lot of companies popped up and with a fixture, Bridgeport and hand tools were in business. The is guy in FL, who changes his business name and address often that puts out some bad parts.
Original calipers were just a machined iron bore. If the brakes were bleed yearly they worked for a long time but most of us don't do that maintenance, myself included!
I pulled off my leaking caliper and popped out one of of the pistons. 99% sure it's ss sleeved, but I can't find a picture of what they look like if they don't have the sleeves. anyone got a link or a pic?

UNDERSTATEMENT... Gary... LOL... some were ****...
I won't mention names because most have gone by the wayside. Only way to put it... Like the new holla hoop once someone figures out a better mouse trap others joined in.
George was always so gracious and nice.... as was Mike when he was a kid. I've not had any interaction with either in the last 20 years but I've always respected their product and dedication to this industry. But its the same old ball and chain, when the garage ****** come out wanting a piece of the action it hurts those that are trying to make a quality product... Nuff said... I'll go back to my square corner in the round room... that'll keep me busying trying to find it for sure.

Those are SS lined, you can see the seam near the bottom of the bore, that was the depth of the boring bar and well past where the seal rides. I have to do the same job on my 72.
My only comment is that my '72 came with SS lined calipers in '95 when I bought it, and so it had DOT3/4 fluids in it.....when I became aware of DOT 5 fluid and the advantages of it being silly-cone it won't add to any rust issues, I switched to it, some time later I went aluminum m/cyl and hydroboost brakes....never an issue, but of course I changed all 4 rubber hoses in there somewhere.....been like that for a LONG time now, been through some rotors/pads when some jerks sabotaged the car, but that's another L O N G story for another time/thread.......but I dunno just what the moderators would have to say about my stating what happened over the years here....
