Default Fan clutch

I need to replace the fan clutch on my '79. There are a bunch available on Rock Auto, and a few at my local auto parts store. Trying to narrow down the options. Anyone know what the GM part number is for a '79 fan clutch?

The guy who runs the local parts store is a friend of mine and says his experience with Hayden fan clutches is so bad he won't sell me one. It sounds like they are using one part to cover multiple applications and as a result have made the clutch so tight the fan runs almost at engine speed all the time. Ideally I'd like to find an NOS part or a good used one. No one has a parts book for '79?

I had the same issue with a HD Hayden and it sounded like a jet taking off when I got on the loud peddle. Went back to the standard Hayden and have not had an issue. Get what you want, it's your car.

I have a stock fan and clutch assembly from my 80, if that is helpful to you. PM if you are interested. It will never go back on the car.

Thanks. I might do that if my research doesn't turn up a suitable replacement.

Failure is not the concern. The common complaint seems to be that the aftermarket clutches are too tight and as Buccaneer said, they sound like a jet on takeoff.

Maybe get a flex fan? Now you will get complaints. My HD fan doesn't sound any louder than the oem did which was HD for the A/C. Good luck with whatever you choose.

It's not a tight issue per-say, but since they are temperature sensitive, it would not release like it should with the HD clutch and stayed engaged which then sounded like a jet taking off at WOT also sucking up some power. Standard clutch for me worked just fine and still does.

The HD and SD Haydens roar for about 30 seconds on start up.. it tells you that on the box..after that its no louder than a stock fan but at 50 mph it pulls more air .. .. your fan is whisper quiet because its NOT moving much air.. it gets 110* here.. those are ineffective with A/C
