I put a heavy duty soloniod on my starter. the car started three times no problem. the fourth time it started but the starter continued to spin (solonoid disengaged). I turned the ignition switch off and the car continued to run. Pulled the coil wire to stop engine and disconnected battery to stop start. I then put the stock solonoid back on and the starter cranked as it should. but, now the engine won't start. I have spark coming out of plug wires and plenty of fuel????
did i fry the hot wire from solonoid to coil that is used to provide extra juice when cranking and would this be the problem? I have a new engine wiring harness from Lectric sitting on work bench. Would installation of new wiring solve problem?
Sounds like the solenoid shorted or you had the ignition wire on the wrong terminal. Not sure what ignition you have,if hei you may have got the coil or module.Seems strange that you have fire at the plugs, check for a nice blue spark if not have the module checked at the auto parts.Otherwise check points and cond. :chevy
Didn't have wrong wires on solonoid, started fine three times. I have spark, maybe to weak? I have been working on old chevys for 30 years and this one has me stumped. Tried a new coil....I guess I will do that rewire job I have been sitting on or a year.
Thanks for the offer, I threw in the towel and took the car to Top Flight Corvettes to figure it out. Didn't have the time to get it going right now. I just got back from Florida. Will have to give some you local c3 guys a call my next trip.
