Default Keep 5 mph bumpers or not?

So I currently have the body off the frame and I’m wondering if the is any reason to keep the heavy bumpers under the fiberglass front and back? It is a 75 and I’m thinking it would be a good idea to not to reinstall them. What do you guys think?

I’ve heard some people take them off to reduce over all weight. Just wondering if the are any problems that might occur if they aren’t there?

I would keep them, if the car is going to be driven on roads, ,,, , if your only useing it for competition, and NEED weight reduction, ,take them off,

I was able to leave them on, and easily install my new bumper covers over them,,, it's so much safer with them left on the car for their intended purpose, , IMHO,,

But,, as you said,, many remove them,,,,check out other posts on this subject for more detailed information, ,,,,,, ,,

I’ve thought about doing the same thing..
Do the 5mph bumpers add any additional support to the front fiberglass or are the only attached to the frame members?

FWIW: if you remove them, you will have no impact protection.

I'm not sure of the weight, but I can tell you they are heavy. Hard to lift.

keeping them for the 5 mph impact is a waste, they are heavy and most likely you bumper cover will be damaged anyway resulting in a claim. The support also appears to distribute impact to the frame so not having one could make a minor accident more severe and possible liability claim issues. Replacing it with a fabricated piece that is lighter and doesnt use the impact shocks makes more sense, here https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ghlight=bumper
