Default Wiper door help please

Hello Everyone

I picked up a 68 convertible 3 months ago and am slowly correcting years of neglect from previous owner.

I have now decided to tackle the wiper door issue.

Headlights work well no issues.

Wiper door will not retract, it is in the up position all the time.

Tried the override switch and no luck.

Placed a hand vac on the filter checked out ok
Placed vac on check valve holds vacuum but slowly leaks

Placed vac on wiper door actuator

Main line going in pumped up but did not hold vac

Line under the rod would not draw any vac

Placed vac on vac switch no vac on any line.

Manifold vac is 15 inches

Thanks for any help

Mike

check the actuator relay in the passenger wheel well. There is 2 sources of vacuum to it with the engine running, switched vacuum from the relay inside the car on the back of the tack, and manif0ld vacuum coming from the reservoir can on the drivers side fenderwell. The vacumm from the reservoir is always there while the engine is on and the switched vac is only there when the wiper switch id on. If there is vacuum going to it , check and see if there is vacuum coming out. There should be closing va all the time and openning vac when the switch is on.

That actuator leaked internally on mine through the shaft and it goes straight to atmosphere. To test the actuator can, If you put the mity vac on the inside hose of the can it should open the window ( pushing the rod in towards the wipers).

You can open the door by pushing the rod by hand all the way in. You will see a little arm that sticks out of the wall compress a little button switch. Then you will be able to start working on that awesome wiper system while yo wait for parts on the vacuum side.

If you go to the Willcox site there is vacuum diagrams and trouble shooting for both systems. But you have to make sure you are looking at the 68 systems as they are slightly different from the 69 to 72 systems
