help,
My choke spring (under metal cover with rod attaching spring to carb) will not unwind enough to push the rod up enough to allow the secondaries to open or to eliminate fast idle. The engine always wants to run in the fast idle mode. If I bump the throttle quickly the idle will drop down but as soon as the throttle is touched the fast idle returns. I have bent the rod straight to make it as long as possible but this doesn't seem to make a difference. I did replace the thermostat with a 160, is the engine too cool to unwind the spring or am I doing something wrong?
My car is a 69 350/350 w/ a quadrajet.
Thanks in advance
Steve
Did it used to work? It is real easy to buy the wrong spring, ie the one that pulls down rather than pushes up (wound the opposite way). You can get a new one at Napa autoparts. MJ
The spring I bought is the correct one, I tracked down a nos unit. It has never really worked better than it is working now. I have been letting the engine come up to operating temp and then locking the rod in the full up position. This works but is not the perfect solution, I want my secondaries!!!!
