I just inherited a 79 vette from my grand father and im having trouble starting it. I have to give it a lot of gas to start and then i have to rev the engine for a few seconds to keep it from shutting off. Once i do that its good to go. I was wondering what the problem might be. Im thinking it might be bad gas, maybe water or fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced 8-10 years ago. Appreciate any info yall could give me. Thanks!
We need to know a bit more history on the car. Has it been sitting for a long time? If so then your bad gas theory has a lot of merit. You'd be best served to drain the tank and put fresh gas in it.
Having to rev the engine might be caused by poor or no choke operation on the carb. Does it have a manual choke or electric? Also if the car has been sitting for a very long time then the carb might need a good rebuild because
there could be internal issues with it. Does it have the Rochester still on it or something else?
