First I want to thank the Captain for getting the Steeroids Rack and Pinion group purchase set up for us. I received my unit last week and I am thrilled with it. The quality is great. I won't be installing it till about Christmas vacation because I am sending a lot of it off to be plated as some of you know. I also want to thank Speed Direct for posting the pictures on here to help me decide what to plate, etc. I am glad that you have joined the Forum Family.
I am now interested in the Speed Direct clutch linkage. I agree that the stock system leaves a lot to be desired. Exactly how does this mount up? Do we still use the Z-bar? I am planning to install a Lakewood bellhousing in the near future. Will the linkage work with it? Can I see a picture of this linkage installed on a shark so I can get a better idea as to how it functions?
Hi Flash, I've installed the SD clutch linkage in my 79. Yes you'll still need to use the stock Z-bar. All it really replaces is the rods from clutch pedal to the z-bar and the rod from the z-bar to the clutch fork. Yes you can use it with the Lakewood BH, that's what I've got now. I'm currently converting to hydraulic clutch so I have to ditch all the cluncky stock linkage soon. Try to do a search on my username, I think there should be pics of the SD clucth linkage installation.
Where are you getting the stuff to convert to an Hydraulic clutch. Can you take pics of the install. I switched from an automatic to a 4speed and have already hung the pedals but haven't done all of the other neccessary mods. A hyd clutch would be great I just don't know how to go about doing it.
Hey there John! Groovyjay covered the basics pretty good. The upper pushrod bolts onto the z-bar (rather than a pin and spring clip). The lower pushrod is supplied with brackets to adapt the rodend to the clutch fork. Here is a picture.
You shouldn't have any problems with a lakewood bellhousing.
I really like the idea of a hydraulic clutch system. I also like what I see of Speed Direct's linkage kit. Maybe they should be combined. I hope you keep us posted groovyjay on your progress.
