My budget for the rebuild is pretty much unlimited. I'm fine with the OEM L-46 replacement cam on this build. I believe the GM PN. is 3896962 for this cam. I'm contemplating just pulling the motor and doing a total rebuild.at this point.
fuel pump gotta come off. oil pan comes off too to reinstall cover. then you are looking at bearings, oil pump, may as well push out pistons and re-ring. can't justify leaving the old clutch in there. now you got a bare block attached to the car by 2 engine mount bolts...

IF ... If I had adequate budget ... and IF it were MY 11:1 L46 being rebuilt, I'd replace pistons to reduce compression (for pump gas) ... some porting ...
... and I'd retro-fit a good roller cam & lifters ... careful, studied choices can retain or exceed that 350 fwhp and retain L46 heads & block ... on pump gas.
I'd also also idle headwork until motor plans are confirmed.
It's time to pick a new cam. I have it down to four choices. Comp Cams, XE 262, XE 274, XE 268 or the OEM 3896962. I just had my original 186 heads rebuilt and I'm maintaining the 11:1 compression, stock intake and quadrajet carb. Any advise would be appreciated.
