Default side pipe inserts

couldn't decide on inserts for my hooker side pipes. They are expensive just to experiment to get the sound I want, but I can't drive with open pipes too long.So i found a set on craigslist.Guy said Hooker side pipe inserts.Too mild for him.Only 4 months old 75$.Holy crap they are quite.Question is,Has anyone modify the inserts?Like drill them out?Take out the packing? What was the results if they did? Thanks

Not sure you can modify the restriction on the holley inserts easily. I love the sound of the spiral inserts available. I fabricated a set myself but the STS spirals have a great following.

If they're reverse flow ,just throw them away. Many years ago a salesman at P.A.W. said they would not restrict power but they were terrible. What I did was buy the glass packs(hooker) and drilled 8 (3/16) in frt and 8 in back.No back pressure and they sound nice.I can hear the radio while cruising. The side pipes are bolted to the frame but with the reverse flows they pushed the pipes back to the rear tires.I only have about 450h.p. so if you have alot more h.p. you may need something less restrictive.

The STS spirals most agree offer the least loss of power. You can search youtube and get clips to get an idea of the sound.

The STS inserts are also easy to modify. Someone here showed his quick-release caps, to go from street mode to track mode without unbolting the pipes.

My Hooker side pipes came with two feet of glass packs welded on, otherwise I'd have gone with STS.

I use STS baffles and capped them with a freeze plug and a bolt just in case. Not too loud at all. Good sound but not obnoxious.

I went with the classic chambered vette packs to quiet down my 4" straight side pipes

Ive got a set of Sweet Thunder inserts they can make them in whatever size you desire. Mine are 2.5 and sound good. It barks back pretty hard when you jump on it.

Just get the Hooker Max Flos and be done with it.

If you have the reverse flows now, they're extremely restrictive. The glass packs are better, but still somewhat restrictive.
