Default Big-Block "casting #" location on the block???

Where would you find the casting number on a big block Chevy motor?
71-72 454c.i in question.

Thanks,
Tom

Hey Tom,

It will be on the drivers side of the block just behind the cylinder head, I'm guessing this is for your new toy?

Rear, by bell housing, drive side, 7 digits. Post what you find, we have references.

Yes Pat, it's the motor in the "New Toy", I'm still un-ravelling the mystery!

Casting # 3999289 (or maybe 8999289)

Thanks for the location, easy to find when I know where to look.

The cast iron exhaust manifolds match up to a 1972 model Chevrolet.
(#3989310 on right and #3989343 on left)

This motor is not in a Vette, just wondering what it came out of originally.

Thanks,

What a coincidence, you have the same casting I do  3999289. So it may possibly have been out of a 73 vette, when you get a chance pull a valve cover and see if it has 049 heads, if it does then there is a better chance it did come out of a 73 vette. What vin number is stamped on the block in front of the passenger side head?

That link is for "small blocks"
Need the "Big block" info.

Pat, I'll get back to ya with the V.I.N.# and head castings when I get time to check.

Thanks,
Tom
