So I did finally get my vette and am loving it despite all the work it needs. While under the hood I stumbled across a hose I had missed before that was just dangling with a large screw corking off the end of it. I imagine it was effective for whatever purpose it has. Whatever purpose the screw has I'm pretty sure it's not factory.
I tracked the hose down to some Y connector and to something that I'm not sure what it is yet with what looks like a Black cap.
So what I'm trying to figure out is what that container is, what the screw may have been placed there for, and what if anything I should do with this.
This is a 1978 Base Model. I think it's mostly unmodified, but this happens to be an exception.
Bubba screw. Trying to get a photo of the Y connector The hose seems to connect to some Y connector that connects to that black cap.

Reason: Adding car year
This is what the top of the 1978 fuel vapor canister looks like. Google 1978 corvette vacuum line and you will see some images for the routing of the lines.
Thanks, that is the canister in question. As I recall the hose in question is connected eventually through that Y connector to the fuel tank line. I couldn't find any place where the hose in question would connect to. Thanks this all helps a lot in answering my question and trying to figure out what is going on with that hose.

You may be able to find a vacuum system diagram specific to your car/engine on the internet. My Google skills are lacking this morning.
Your best bet is the Shop Manual for 1978 Corvettes, available from the vendors, and even Rock Auto. Another good bet is to read the Forum posts on the specific systems, and decide for yourself what you do and do not need to leave connected under the hood. The fuel vapor canister is one system I would absolutely recommend you keep functional. Are you looking for a 100% factory original appearance, or just something that works and looks clean?
Good luck with your car, and please post more photos!
The AIM is specific to a 78 Corvette and shows how the car was put together in more detail than the above manuals. Willcox has it here, just specify the year: https://willcoxcorvette.com/corvette...cd-format-2530
If you are going to keep the car, well worth the small investment.
