Default New Tires

I just had to post this comment. I bought a 1981 last September with only 24k miles on it. Was very well maintained (I might as well say cherry) and had some nice upgrades....Aluminum radiator, Retro radio, Magna Flows and a number of other things. It also had a nice set of Goodyear Eagle GT 2's with a ton of tread left. So I recently saw a couple threads on tire date codes and checked my tires. They were manufactured in 2002!! Yesterday I put a set of Cooper Cobra's on and instead of the 225/70's I had 255/ 60's mounted. What a difference in the ride! I'm still amazed at the difference. Really smoothed out the ride and with the wider footprint seems to handle better as well. I like driving her more than ever! I also had the 2/1/2 exhaust removed and had true duals made up recently. Both upgrades have made this a much sweeter ride.

Old tires may have flat spots that may have worked out. Or could have some ply delamination.
Either way you made some real improvement. Congratulations. Wise upgrsdes

Its not the wider footprint its the new softer rubber vs the old hard as a rock rubber.
