Hello all. I have 1980 vette I bought last summer and still going through it and updating/repairing some stuff. It has a 383 in which I love. The overall condition of the car is actually really good a previous owner redid it some what and set it up to go to the drag strip. I use it to cruise around in so I don’t get to crazy on the throttle. I have noticed though that when I do it gets a really bad vibration in the steering wheel.
I have researched this a little little and my question is since I’m not racing this how crazy do I need to get updating the suspension or steering. There is play and I would love to tighten up the steering and get rid of the vibration. I know minimum I need to replace the bushings. How crazy down the rabbit hole should I go.
Maybe even a good better best scenario? Thanks in advance.
Also I’m in Indianapolis anyone trust a mechanic or shop around here in case I need one. I had a 77 before and got hosed on some work.
Could be lots of things. Tires out of balance from flatspots due to sitting, then exacerbated by worn control arm bushings, etc. You'll just have to dig in and find the issue. The most overlooked item for "tire shakes" is a bad driveshaft u-joint.
