Looking at a 69 427 tri-power. Started it up and let it idle. My son and I then went.to looking this thing over interested in possibly buying. We.probably spent 20-30 minutes looking at, in and under before we shut it off. We noticed then that the temp was at.about 225°. Now...the fan shroud doesn't fit around the engine fan but does come close to it. The radiator is new but looks a little thin to be a four row.
Does anyone have experience with something like that? Suggestions? We.do plan to go back and check it out some more. I know that more questions are in need here. The seller did make comment that it ran a.little "hot".
Have been going thru the posts about overheat issues. I see that the fan needs to be farther "into the shroud". Will have to check for "sealing" around the shroud. Will try and check timing and presently installed spark plugs. Anything else that I may be missing? Thanks in advance!

Cooling, fan and shroud is a very special topic :-)
My 69 427 L36 also gets up to 225 when idling for 20 - 30 minutes without getting cooled by being driven (gets below 210 when cooled by an airstream)
To be checked (brainstorming not a complete list):
the 69 427 L36 shroud is a two piece shroud (guess this is also true for the tri power option), there is an additional piece at the bottom for directing the air flow
in addition to the shroud-radiator sealings there should also be a seal between the shroud and the hood (forcing most of the air thru the rad).
the viscous fan clutch should work properly
correct (in terms of working) rad and water pump
last but not least double check the temperature by a temperature gun, the temp gauge may be off a few degrees...
