Default 275 on 11”wheel

Has anyone run a 275 tire on a 11” wide wheel? I currently have 295-40-18 on the front of my 68 and at full lock the tire edge just touches the end of rocker panel moulding. I know the falken azenis do run wider than normal so I’m curious as to whether I could switch out the fronts to 275-35-18. I know there is roughly a 1.5” difference in overall height.

This is what it looks like now.

I used to run a 275/45-16 on 11's, and now that is the current setup on my dad's car. The hard part is getting the narrow tire to bead up on the wide wheels, usually I'd have to take them to a shop with a Cheetah blaster tank. With a 275/35-18 I'd expect even more resistance, but a few hours in the hot sun really helps a lot. I see that the 275/35-18 Falkens list their rim range at 9-11", they'll be pretty stretched, but otherwise they should be fine.

Do you happen to have any photos of that setup? Right now with the 295 the tire bulges over the rim just slightly, I'm hoping with the 275 it is either even with the rim or just slightly stretched. Hopefully that will eliminate any clearance problems as right now I get a tiny bit of rub at full lock.

Not on the car I don't. However I have this picture of the 275's mounted on 16x11's, not sure that it's an apples-to-apples comparison though with a 275-18..

Yeah even that amount of stretch from that photo is acceptable to me, it doesn't look odd to me. I've already swapped out the 550 springs for 460 which did raise the front a bit, and I trimmed the flares as well removing the front 1" spacer. It did give me a lot more clearance and I am not rubbing on the fender anymore but it does touch the end of the rocker moulding. The 20mm from 295 to 275 should give me that little bit of clearance I need.

* Is it okay to mix tires? Falken makes another high performance summer tire, the FK510 which comes in 285-35-18. If its okay to have a different tread on the front and rear then I could get this tire instead.
