Default 79L82 muffler change stock

Hi, thought if anyone interested i am replacing my stock falling apart mufflers.
im normally never into exhaust work and there is limited info on removing sleeved pipes.so here it goes..

searched so many videos, wanted louder than stock but not by much, still have original cat and stock exhaust.
i decided on the dynomax super turbo which i purchased at walmart with store pickup Wednesday. I normally support sponsors but price point aside free shipping helps seal this deal. Funny i ordered amazon but they were a month oit free shipping

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Dynomax-1...fler/109451492

Many methods to remove without damaging the remaining pipe and i found this method of 4 inch grinder, grind off first layer of pipe make a wedge, vice grip it off and some wiggling and off...very cool.

i shall update when i install and post a sound..

Grinder cut

Rattle on that side was pipe broke loose

Anatomy oem

Pipe that came out Both rusted and loose inside

Furnace cement. Old muffler shops used it to seal it up better and help it stay tight.

The rust helps prevent them from falling off. Never sieze.....well you know.

Well interesting. Car was dead cold and normally takes two pumps of gas...doesnt start...two more pumps starts...little smoke...
new mufflers starts up perfect after 2 pumps and idles high and then low..really weird it started so nice no smoke.

i did notice that the old mufflers were far more deteriorated than i thought and full rust..mabe backpressure gone?

cat still on.
sound is amazingly quiet..some rumble...maybe louder when cat comes off...so far so good

Interpon,

I see you mentioned a rattling that you traced to the muffler during its autopsy. I've been been trying to trace what I call a knocking and so far no luck. If you have a minute please check out the thread I have on this issue. Post 24 has a couple recordings of it. I'm curious if it sounds the same as your rattle. As you'll see in the thread, I've replaced about everything in the a$$ end that makes noise. The mufflers though are old - maybe original - I don't recall. But in any case, they also need to be replaced.

yes yes it does sound like it..no rhyme or reason but can change it with gas pedal if clutch in when it happens...( pure guess though)

take your fist soft side and bang on each muffler.. ANY sound is not good.. should be dead thump.. also do the same on the cat while cold.. same results.. do the same on the pipes.. I re riveted ALL the heat shields.. my car is almost sound free!!!! also replaced cat bracket to car

and ya they were way rustier than I thought.. one where it looked good shook like marbles and rice inside. Started car and blew out another 5 pounds rust..fixed my starting 4 pump issue too..must have made back pressure.

if original I really like my super turbos.. they are getting slightly louder..
