I was replacing my side-view mirror because the pivot ball was very loose. Unfortunatley, while taking off the mounting plate both screws snapped off. Now, I'm guessing that I have to drill out the screws and re-tap the holes? Has anyone ran into this problem? Can you provide some input here?
If you have chrome side mirrors, I dont believe there is any threaded portion inside the door that the screws thread into. It is an expanding anchor that drops through the mounting plate and into the door. If the screw head is snapped off, you could try pulling it out carfully, or you should be able to push the remaining screw/anchor portion down into the door, and remove them when you take the door panels off at a later date.

I think the driver's side mirror has a metal mount inside the door. If that's the case you have to drill it and get the broken bolt out. The passenger side mirrors are usually add-ons and they use the rubber well nuts. These you can usually push through and take out from the inside of the door. Before you try to take out the bolts soak them with penetrating oil and if you can get to them from the inside of the door soak them there too. It might make them easier to take out.
Thanks for the information. I took the door panel off and guess what...I can't see any mounting nuts. It seems that there is a plate that blocks access to the mounting bolts. I will attempt to drill out the screws and re-tap (need to watch-out for the window glass). I'm hoping that I can re-tap the anchor bolt after I have drilled it out. If not then I may have to drill all the way through and put a nut on the outer braket with longer screws...OR...see if I can put in a heli-coil insert.
